TENS MACHINE

TENSE Therapy

TENS therapy (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a non-invasive treatment method that uses low-voltage electrical currents to help manage pain. A TENS unit delivers these currents through small electrodes placed on the skin near the area of discomfort.

How Does TENS Therapy Work?

  1. Pain Relief: The electrical impulses may block or disrupt pain signals from traveling to the brain.
  2. Endorphin Release: It can stimulate the production of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers.
  3. Muscle Relaxation: Helps reduce muscle tension and spasms by gently stimulating the nerves.

What Conditions Can TENS Therapy Help With?

  • Chronic pain (e.g., arthritis, fibromyalgia)
  • Acute injuries (e.g., sprains, strains)
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Nerve pain (e.g., sciatica)
  • Muscle tension and spasms

What to Expect During TENS Therapy

  • Small adhesive pads (electrodes) are placed on your skin around the painful area.
  • The TENS unit sends adjustable electrical impulses, often described as a tingling sensation.
  • Sessions typically last between 15 and 60 minutes and can be done in a clinic or at home with a portable unit.

Is TENS Therapy Safe?

TENS therapy is generally safe for most people, but it may not be suitable for those with:

  • Pacemakers or other implanted devices
  • Epilepsy
  • Pregnancy (consult a healthcare professional first)

Always consult with a qualified therapist or healthcare provider to determine if TENS therapy is right for you.
